At MyNextBike we offer a range of guidelines to help you find the perfect bike without needing to see it first!
Our platform brings together measurements and size guides from manufacturer’s websites in order to provide an accurate size estimation. You can see the recommended riders height for the particular model on every listing page.
We also encourage our sellers to provide as much information as possible, including frame measurements and their own height.
The Manufacturer’s recommended sizing is the most accurate, so we would always advise you to use them – after all, they made them! However, if this information is not confirmed or you're trying to get an understanding of universal sizing, here are general guidelines based on average bike geometries for each category of bike
Road bikes
Road bike frame sizes are measured in centimetres and are based on the length of the seat tube – the part of the frame which runs straight up from the bottom bracket (where the chainring and pedals attach to the bike) and the seat post.
Some brands also simplify sizes into Small, Medium Large etc, however this is much less common.
Mountain Bikes
Mountain bike sizes are measured in much the same way as road bikes, however most modern models will have a heavily sloping top tube. The angle of this top tube means that mountain bike seat tubes can vary considerably, so it is much more common to see sizing broken down into Small, Medium and Large etc.
Hybrid Bikes
Hybrid bikes have a slightly different geometry to both mountain and road bikes. Their sizes are often measured in inches or centimetres, but it is not uncommon to see categorical sizing like Small, Medium, Large.
